Overview
At The University of Texas at Austin, we offer an undergraduate degree in Textiles and Apparel with the opportunity for students to specialize in one area - design, merchandising or textiles. Design students will build the skills needed to design and create clothing for their own lines or working with global brands, while fashion merchandising students will cultivate knowledge in the highly nuanced business side of the fashion industry and textile students will focus on the properties and processing of fibers, yarns, whole fabrics, dyes, and finishes including innovative developments in the industry.
TXA Coursework: In addition to meeting all University and College of Natural Sciences requirements, TXA students can specialize in design, merchandising or textiles. All TXA students take foundational courses (TXA 301C Introduction to the Fashion Industry; TXA 305 Textiles, TXA 314C Computer Aided Design, TXA 314K Product Development) and then follow the guidelines for their chosen specialization where students will gain advanced and mastery level skills within their selected area.
